Protein is an important nutrition that our bodies need. Consumption of
protein is not merely for the building of muscle mass by body builder, it is used for many other tasks by our
body. It is beneficial to the recovery of the sick as well as for rebuilding of damaged muscles.
Classification of Amino Acids
Proteins are actually different types of amino acids which are folded together. Amino acid is typically grouped
into 2 groups. The amino acid which our body is able to produce is called non essential amino acid, and for the
ones our body are not able to produce is called essential amino acids.
Complete and Incomplete Proteins
Proteins which consists of all the essential amino acids are called complete protein, while for protein which
has missing vital amino acids are called incomplete protein. Ideally, we should be consuming complete
acids, however there could be some circumstances which we are unable to consume complete proteins.
Vegetarians consume plant proteins which, other than soy, do not have complete proteins. To compensate, they
need to eat a variety of vegetable and whole grain rice, daily in order to obtain the needed complete protein
to stay healthy.
For non vegetarins, hitting the RDI of daily protein is not an issue, as most meat contain complete proteins.
Some sources of complete proteins such as cheese, eggs, dairy and soy.
